Golf Chipping Tips - Stop Missing from Around the Green

Golf Chip Shot Proper FinishA number of golf chipping tips out there will make it seem like chipping is not that difficult, but in reality it’s what plagues even the best golfers.

As recreational golfers most of us either skull the golf ball, hit it fat or thin, and just flat out miss the green from short distances when chipping.

Many errand chip shots are caused by flipping the wrists on impact, improper alignment, an un-square club face at impact, and many other reasons.

When chipping you want to play the ball back in your stance because you’re trying to play the shot low.

One important thing you want to see with a chip is a low ball flight.  This allows the ball to roll to the intended target once it hits the green.

Keep your weight on your forward leg with a slightly open stance.

The feet will be closer together so you just want your lead leg to be back enough, allowing you the space to get through the golf ball comfortably.

Be sure to keep your shoulders pushing the club head back, and lead the handle through impact, keeping the wrists firm.

The correct position for the shaft through impact will be ahead of the club face. This will make a solid chip shot and the ball will hit the green and roll end over end.

If you flip your hands, the shaft will be behind the club face and most likely will strike the ball with a closed club face, resulting in those pulls, chunks or swipes under the ball.

What you want to do with a good chip shot is push the club back with your shoulders, keeping the angle of the club face with your wrists.

Then use your shoulders to pull the handle through impact with firm hands and wrists.

You’ll see the ball come out and land on the green with a nice end over end roll of the ball.

With these golf chipping tips and enough practice around the green, you’ll shed strokes off your game, and won’t feel flustered when close to the green.

Good luck and good golfing!
